Guns and Powder
Production (3 hours) In Frederiksvaerk, 14 km from Hundested, the old cannon foundry “Gjethuset” was founded 250 years ago. It supplied many of European armies with guns for a long period, stretching way back into history. A visit to the gunpowder factory is included in a sightseeing tour to Frederiksvaerk.
First, we visit the “House of Fishing and Harbour” to learn about the origin of Hundested going back to the end of the 19th century.
A short walk away we find an entrenchment securing the narrow entrance of the Fjord by the four guns placed to keep enemies from plundering or attacking the area.
Further north the Greenland explorer Knud Rasmussen’s House. Knud Rasmussen conducted many expeditions crossing the inland ice of Greenland and going as far as Canada and NA. In the house, we see authentic dog sledges, kayaks and other gear from the expeditions.
Walking back to Hundsted and the ship, we will follow the coast path along the sea.
