City Walk in Frederiksværk: A Stroll Through History

Between fascinating stories and physical activity, there is no contradiction. The museum invites you to a 3-hour-long walk – a journey through the local history of Denmark.

We begin by exploring Gjethuset and learning about the military and civilian production in the 250-year-old foundry.

Next, we ascend Sandskåret and climb the staircase with 74 steps (!) up to Krudttårnsbakken, from where, on a clear day, you can enjoy the view over all of Halsnæs and pinpoint landmarks such as the Gunpowder Factory and others in the landscape, while also getting an impression of the colossal size of the Steel Rolling Mill.

The journey continues along the forest path to Norske Bakke, where there used to be a bell during the time of Classen, which called the workers to the workshops every morning. The hospital is passed along the way, leading us further along the canal past Brohuset and Arresødal Castle to Lake Arresø.

On the way back, the route goes through the park before ending back in Frederiksværk at the Arsenal, home to the iconic test cannon of Major General Classen.
